Background
Cast-in-place concrete was specified in the original Tindall proposal for building this petrochemical facility. For the pipe racks and process buildings at the facility, Tindall was forced to come up with an inventive alternative layout utilizing precast concrete. The EPC approved the concept Tindall developed as the finest imitation of cast-in-place previously presented. The project had the added benefit of being in close proximity to two Tindall production facilities, one of which is just a couple of hundred miles away from the other. EPC was confident that Tindall would be able to achieve the strict timetable because of its extensive in-house technical experience with industrial projects.
Thanks to the new plant's development plan, Tindall arrived at the building site one month earlier than expected. Eight precast concrete pieces were supposed to be installed each day according to the original schedule. With Tindall's instruction both for the design and on-site, the erector could construct 20 pieces daily with a small workforce, which is an excellent rate. The whole project was completed on schedule and met the allotted four-month time frame thanks to the quick engineering, fabrication, and erection of the precast components.
